Indian Hills Just Misses NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Crown
NEWTON, Kan. — Indian Hills came within one stroke of a national title at the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship, finishing as the national runner-up after leading by four strokes heading into the final round at Sand Creek Station.
McLennan (Texas) made its move on the final day, shooting 2-under par as a team while Indian Hills finished the round at 3-over par, allowing McLennan to gain five strokes and claim the championship by one.
The Warriors had led the field for three of the four rounds after opening the tournament with a team score of 293, or 5-over par. Indian Hills finished the four-round tournament at 21-over par, while McLennan won the team championship at 20-over par.
Miles Bollinger led Indian Hills individually, finishing as the national runner-up at 2-under par. Bollinger was especially strong in the second and third rounds, shooting 2-under par each day to stay in contention near the top of the leaderboard.
Harry McArdle added another top-five finish for the Warriors, placing fourth overall. McArdle's best performance came in the second round, when he shot 4-under par with six birdies. Charlie Preston and Freddie Surgey rounded out the Warriors' top four finishers, with Preston taking 23rd at 13-over par and Surgey placing 36th at 16-over par.
Iowa Western also represented the ICCAC with a top-10 team finish, placing ninth at 64-over par over the four rounds. Ty Potter led the Reivers with a seventh-place individual finish, closing the tournament at 5-over par. Potter's best round came on the opening day, when he shot 1-under par.
Behind him, teammates Sam Wells and William Welsh were the next-highest-placing Reivers. Wells finished at 21-over par, while Welsh finished at 23-over par.
McLennan claimed the team championship at 20-over par, while Abe Bignell of McLennan won the individual crown at 6-under par.
